A Titanic Embarrassment

As much as I hate to say this, the 2009 season for the Titans is all but over. They're 0-5 with New England up next.

I'm as optimistic as the next person, but until our secondary shows something positive to me, then I have no doubt this team will win no more than three games, and that's if they're lucky.

It's natural as a fan of a horrible team to start thinking about the upcoming draft. This 2010 NFL Draft is loaded with talent at many positions. So now the question arises that if the Titans should play for the early draft pick? Seeing where the franchise is at the quarterback position, Colt McCoy is looking really good right about now. And we know how owner Bud Adams loves those Texas boys.

Hopefully the Titans won't start losing games on purpose to get the draft pick, but frankly they don't have to. They're bad enough to where they could play their hearts out and still end up with that early draft pick to get Colt McCoy.

If Jeff Fisher isn't going to give Vince Young the chance to lead this team after starting 0-5 with Kerry Collins, then I don't see any other option other than to go after Colt McCoy. Kerry Collins isn't going to get any better. To put it bluntly, he's one big hit away from turning to dust as far as I'm concerned.

It's definitely not fun talking about this subject only five games into the season, but the Titans are truly that bad. The most we can hope for now is that we don't end up with the worst record in the league. Hopefully the Rams, Buccaneers, or the Raiders will bail us out on that.

  1. You are correct that the Titans are "That" bad this year but why are they "That" bad. I believe it is the fault of the coaching staff on multiple levels. Losing Albert has caused more pressure to be on the secondary. It is not their fault that we let Albert go because he is not worth 41 mil guaranteed. However all else is their fault........Jevon is finished, Vanden Bosch is nearly finished......shouldn't they have known that before the 5th game? We passed up the opportunity to sign Bobby Wade who could have helped our passing game as well as our return game. Last year we had that defensive tackle on the practice squad that Indy signed to their 53 man roster and he started for them against the Titans. Chuck Cecil has blown it so far as evidenced by players comments after the first game. Where is David Thornton this year....asleep?

Kerry has not had the stuff this entire season but yet we give him a two year contract? We kept Chris Henry on the roster after the first game ( so they have to pay him for entire year ) and then cut him in order to sign defensive back? Why waste that spot for 3.1 years?
Vince is certainly not the answer.....both offensive tackles have not pass blocked worth a flip. Kevin Mawae is a leader and smart but he looks like Bruce Matthews did in his last 2 years. SLOW.
They have kept Algae fumble fingers Crumpler on the roster just to block in the run game which has not worked or else Chris Johnson has forgotten how to hit a hole overnight.

My point is that our coaching staff and Mike Reinfeldt is to blame for the lousy personnel decisions that they have made.

    Your thoughts?

  2. That laundry list of problems you just named are all valid reasons to why our organization is where it is. Trust me, last year's record was a fluke. Our defense bailed us out of so many games that it actually hid our mediocrity.

Now all of the sudden the Titans defense is just average and we are being exposed as the team that we really are. Hate to say it, but it's true.
