The Cinderella Slipper Fits the Broncos Well

Cinderella stories are one of the things that makes sports so great and every sport has them. Almost every season can you find at least one Cinderella story.

For the NFL it's got to be the Denver Broncos. Anyone who tells you they saw the Broncos starting 6-0 are bold faced lying to you. Seeing them start 0-6 would have been a lot more understandable.

The defense has completely transformed from the doormat of NFL defenses to one of the most respected. Kyle Orton is 7th in the league in quarterback rating with a 100.1 rating.

Is this really happening?

Let's analyze some of the facts going into the 2009 season:

  • A coaching controversy with Josh McDaniels including questions of whether he could coach an NFL team.
  • Lost Jay Cutler and took on who everyone thought was an unstable quarterback in Kyle Orton.
  • Their defense was among the worst in the NFL in 2008. ( 29th in total defense)
  • Problems with their number one wide receiver Brandon Marshall heading into training camp. He didn't even want to play for the team.
  • Questions surrounding the running back position. (Ended up starting Knowshon Moreno)
  • Lost their last three games of the 08' season by a combined total of 58 points.
Despite all of those disparities, the Broncos have continued to make a believer out of me and the rest of the sports world.

The Broncos will most likely coast into the postseason by winning the AFC West unless somehow the Chargers find a defense overnight. And we all know that anything can happen when the postseason rolls around.
