Fielder Wins the Derby Crown

Another home run derby is in the books and another big time slugger took home the title.

Prince Fielder of the Milwaukee Brewers took home the title by beating out Nelson Cruz in the finals. He had a total of 23 home runs to win the title.

Last year's home run derby had a few more long balls mainly thanks to Josh Hamilton's first-round rampage where he hit 28.

Besides Fielder, only two other players hit more than five home runs in the first round.

The lack of the long ball can be widely attributed to so many refusals by American League players to participate in the derby, which I can't blame them for.

Both Josh Hamilton and Justing Morneau were just a couple guys who decided to not test the home run derby curse that seems to plague some players after participating in this event.

Hopefully for the Brewers, Fielder won't fall victim to the same curse.
